Wexford GAA’s crippling financial position has been eased after the County Board banked €405, 000 from the sale of 29 acres of land on the outskirts of Ferns.
The County Board offloaded the land as it was seen as surplus to requirements for the development of the long proposed Centre of Excellence inter-county training base at the site which overlooks the N11 road.
The sale completely exceeds the figure which GAA officials had anticipated, and the monies will be utilised to clear the remaining debt on the redevelopment of Wexford Park, and help the board achieve a healthier cashflow situation.
But the €320, 000 loss endured by the sale of land at Glenbrien for the Centre of Excellence continues to hinder Wexford GAA’s efforts to completely erase its burden of debt.
