EMERGENCY SERVICES rescued a naked man from the Ballast Bank off Wexford Harbour yesterday afternoon after he fell into the water shortly after 4 p.m.

Members of the public witnessed the man, (who is believed to be aged in his late 20s or early 30s), jump into the water and swim to the Ballast Bank after he was approached by Gardaí.

Wexford RNLI was notified at 4:08 p.m. and arrived on the scene four minutes later.

RNLI spokesperson Lorraine Galvin said the man entered the water at the south end of the quay.

“He was spotted sitting on the Ballast Bank. Two members of the lifeboat crew went onto the Ballast Bank to the casualty to look after him. The helm went in to the quay to collect two members of the Gardaí who accompanied the helm out to the Ballast Bank.”

The Gardaí travelled back to the RNLI headquarters with the man.

The Rescue 117 Coast Guard helicopter arrived at the scene as the man was being brought back to the station.

Ms. Galvin said the man was taken from the station at around 4:30 p.m.
