The long awaited Gorey Sewerage Scheme DBO Contract Extension of Courtown Waste Water treatment plant has been approved by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government at a cost of €6.35 million.
Senator Michael D’Arcy has welcomed the news that Phil Hogan, T.D., has approved the necessary funding to allow Wexford County Council accept the tender submitted by AECOM Design, Build Ireland Ltd- SIAC Construction Ltd., for the Gorey Sewerage Scheme – Extension of Courtown Waste Water Treatment Plant (WTTP) DBO Contract which is being funded under the Water Services Investment Programme, 2010–2013.
Senator D’Arcy stated; “With the signing of the tender documents Wexford County Council will then be able to accept new planning permissions for the construction of new houses with a connection to the town sewer.
“I welcome this news as it gives the opportunity for the construction of new affordable starter homes for many people from our locality.”
Minister Hogan said; “This contract will upgrade and increase the treatment capacity of Courtown Waste Water Treatment Plant to serve Gorey as well as Courtown and will increase the operating capacity of the Waste Water Treatment Plant to cater for current residential and commercial activities as well as setting a platform for development needs for the foreseeable future.”
On completion of works on the Courtown Waste Water Treatment Plant extension the Gorey Waste Water Treatment Plant will be decommissioned.
Existing treatment structures at Gorey Waste Water Treatment Plant shall be converted to provide screening and storm water storage, with the pumping station pumping all flows to the Courtown Waste Water Treatment Plant for treatment.
Wexford County Council can now complete the contract formalities with the successful tender firm so that work on the Courtown contact can commence as soon as possible.
