The Wexford-based Travelling Light Theatre Group members are deep into rehearsals and eagerly looking forward to presenting Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ as an ‘Open Air Picnic Theatre’ event at Enniscorthy, Wexford and Wells House & Gardens.
“It is a production of a Shakespearian classic as Sheakespeare intended it to be seen,” said Director, Michael Way, speaking at the official launch in held at Wells House & Gardens.
The first and final productions will be performed at Wells House on Saturdays, July 6th and 27th; at the Presentation Centre, Enniscorthy, on Saturday, July 13th and at Redmond Park, Wexford, on Saturday, July 20th.
Mr. Way said that ‘The Tempest’ is an ideal first taste of Shakespeare for anyone who have heard of the world’s greatest playwright, but never seen him. It is perfect for a reunion or family outing.
Speaking passionately about the work, Mr. Way stated that “With ‘The Tempest’ there is no mystery about the language – despite being four hundred years old it is easily understood and easy to follow.”
The Director and members of the cast were given a warm welcome to Wells House by the proprietor, Sabine Rosler, who said she was very much looking forward to both productions and is hoping for a large audience.
“This production is a real celebration of creativity and the art and craft of theatre and it will whet the appetite for more of the Bard’s wonderful insights into what makes us humans tick, and his wonderful ability to weave compelling and magical stories around this rich diversity of characters,” she said.
“A lot of fun with this event is bringing along picnic rugs and cushions to sit on, and maybe even a picnic to enjoy the on-stage entertainment.
“Areas will be reserved for wheelchair users and anyone who wants to sit in camping chairs, which they will need to bring along themselves.”
The performances begin on the Saturday nights at 7.30 pm with an arrival time of 7 pm advised.
Tickets can be purchased for any of the four shows from Wexford Arts Centre – www.wexfordartscentre.ie – or at Wells House & Gardens at www.wellshouse.ie
