Cllr. Kathleen Codd-Nolan, outgoing Cathaoirlech of Wexford County Council has handed over the chains of office to Cllr. Ted Howlin, brother of the Minister for Reform and Public Expenditure, Brendan Howlin, T.D.

Cllr. Howlin becomes the first Labour Party member since Enniscorthy’s Cllr. Andy Doyle, took the chair 39 years ago in 1974.

Cllr. Howlin was elected without a contest at the annual general meeting of the County Council held at Carricklawn, Wexford, yesterday.

The Leas-Cathaoirlech’s position was also accepted without a vote.

Cllr. Pat Cody, who is battling a serious illness, and was recently elected Chairman of Enniscorthy Town Council, was the unanimous choice.
