Drugs worth an estimated street value of almost E3 million Euro were discovered in three separate seizures throughout Co. Wexford over the weekend.

One man (63) appeared before a special sitting of the District Court in Gorey on Sunday arising from the alleged importation of heroin worth E1.5 million at Rosslare Euro Port on Friday.

Meanwhile, in two separate incidents, two men are helping gardai with their inquiries after a seizure of E1.2 million worth of cannabis at Rosslare port on Saturday and the discovery of E240,000 worth of cannabis in a house in an estate in Kilmuckridge on Sunday.

Harm Kort, a Dutch national living in Hanikan, Belgium, was charged on Sunday with the importation and possession of 10.26 kg of heroin at Rosslare port on Friday evening, after customs officers were alerted to his Mercedes jeep by sniffer dog Ralph. He was remanded to Cloverhill.

The car, which arrived on a French ferry, was scanned by the Customs X Ray Scanner which identified an anomaly, leading to the discovery of what is the largest seizure of heroin at the port.

Another dog, Alfie, played a key role a day later when custom officers searched a Northern-Irish registered truck, which also disembarked from a ferry from France, and found E1.2 million worth of cannabis concealed among tiles.

Two men from Northern Ireland, both in their 20s, were arrested by Gardai and questioned. It is believed that one was released without charge while Alan Robert Agnew, Magherafelt, Derry, appeared before a special sitting of Gorey District Court yesterday morning in connection with the seizure. He was remanded in custody until Thursday

In the final incident on Sunday afternoon, Gardai found cannabis with a street value of E240,000 in a house in Chapelwood, Kilmuckridge. A man, said to be in his 60s, is helping Gardai with their inquiries and he can be detained up until seven days.
