A NUMBER of motorists have been affected by an apparent mix-up with diesel and petrol at a filling station in New Ross.

Reports from motorists to The Echo said the incident occurred at the Tesco filling station on the Ring Road after a supplier accidentally put diesel into one of the facility’s petrol storage tanks.

Motorists who stopped to fill up their cars with petrol unknowingly put diesel into their vehicles.

The Echo knows of a number of motorists whose cars were affected. In one case the owner of the car thought it was ‘dirty petrol’ after his car began to ‘chug’. However, it soon became apparent that the matter was more serious.

When this newspaper contacted the store we were first directed to the company’s call centre in Dublin where a customer service manager put us through to the local store.

However, a staff member there, having spoken with the Duty Manager, said he was not in a position to comment on the incident and asked us to contact the company’s national media centre on the matter.
