PEOPLE THROUGHOUT New Ross are in mourning this week following the sudden death of Michael Kane (35), from the Bosheen.

From one of the most respected families in the town Mr. Kane’s passing has brought great heartbreak to his parents, siblings, his beloved daughter, Casey, and to his wide group of friends.

Reared in the Bosheen, Mr. Kane received his education in Michael Street Boys’ School, at primary level, and attended secondary school at New Ross Vocational College.

Renowned for his sense of humour and quick wit he had the ability to light up any room he entered.

His personality was summed up for The Echo with the words: “Michael would instantly brighten up any setting with his cheeky smile and sense of humour.”

The ability to endear oneself to strangers is something that few people possess yet Mr. Kane found it easy to interact when socialising and his amiable and down-to-earth personality was such that everyone he came into contact with found it easy to relax in his company thanks to his quick wit and outgoing personality.

One of the proudest moments in his life occurred just a few weeks ago when he witnessed his daughter, Casey, make her First Communion.

It was a very special day; the memory of which would no doubt have remained with him for years to come but sadly that wasn’t to be.

Mr. Kane enjoyed a very close bond with his daughter and as a doting dad he brought her to see the Wexford Senior Camogie team win their recent string of All-Ireland titles.

He was known for his love of sport and had a particular passion for hurling. While attending New Ross Vocational College he was part of a squad that secured an All-Ireland title for the school. He also loved boxing and in his youth had such an inherent talent for the sport that he won prizes from contests he participated in.

He was also a keen music fan and loved all genres and styles.

The high regard in which he was held within the community in New Ross was underlined by the large gathering of mourners who sympathised with the family over the last few days and also who attended his Requiem Mass in the Parish Church on Friday.

Following the mass, which took place at 11 a.m., his remains were interred in St. Stephen’s Cemetery.

Mr. Kane, whose 35th birthday occurred on June 26, is survived by his parents, Kathleen and Michael, his daughter, Casey, brother, Pat, sisters, Tracy, Geraldine, Sinead, Deirdre, and Aoife, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, relatives and very large circle of friends.

The Echo extends its sympathies to the bereaved.
