A woman out walking on Courtown beach on Saturday evening was surprised when she discovered human remains.

Gardai were called at 7.45 pm and took possession of a lower human jaw bone with some teeth attached.

The remains were identified as “human” by a local doctor who was called to the scene.

It is now in the possession of the State Pathologist who will conduct a number of forensic tests in an effort to identify the bone and trace its origins.
