Ballycanew has retained pole position as the tidiest village in Co. Wexford, increasing its score by four points in the SuperValu National Tidy Towns’ Competition when the results were announced in Dublin today.
It was noted that the village was litter free on adjudication day because the well tried and tested local anti-litter plan was still in operation.
The adjudicators report said that Ballycanew is a rural village which is embracing new housing without compromising its heritage and character.
There was also praise for the approaches displaying the ‘Welcome to Ballycanew’ signs carved in stone.
Ballycanew, who won the title for the first time last year, were determined to retain the title and the entire community is rejoicing at the good news and loud in their praise for the diligent volunteers who keep the village and its environs in pristine condition.
Blackwater increased its score by eight marks and relegated Craanford into third place. Craanford, who won the ‘county title’ for many years up to 2012, stayed on 289 – the same marks as last year.
