WEXFORD G.A.A. has created its own bit if history following a link-up with a local internet provider.

The Wexford based Internet Service Provider, Carnsore Broadband, in conjunction with the G.A.A. is now providing free public Wi-Fi access in Wexford Park.

The local G.A.A. headquarters is now the first sports stadium in the country to offer supporters free access to high-speed internet while they are attending games.

The service is also being used by Wexford GAA to stream live audio match commentary of the Wexford Hurling and Football championship games to supporters all over the world.

The Wi-Fi project was launched earlier this year and the installation also included a separate Press Box set-up allowing journalists the benefit of exclusive internet connection.

Founding partner of the project, John Hersey, commented on the initiative and said: “The project in Wexford Park is a great opportunity for Carnsore Broadband to demonstrate our superior technology to the general public and promote our national sport at the same time.”

The PRO for Wexford G.A.A., Rory Murphy, expressed delight at Wexford creating its own bit of history: “Wexford GAA is delighted to have the first sports ground in the country with high-speed broadband available free to supporters. We have made a determined effort in the past two years to bring our message to a new, younger audience.”

He said such an audience accesses information on-line – especially through smart-phones.

“Young people have a great grá for Gaelic Games and it is important that we deliver our message in a manner accessible to them,” said Mr. Murphy.

Carnsore Broadband has also launched a free public Wi-Fi hotspot on the Crescent Quay in Wexford town. The aim of that pilot project is to monitor demand.
