AN INTERIM examiner was appointed to a well-known Enniscorthy business in the High Court on Monday.

Neil Hughes of Hughes Blake Chartered Accountants was appointed as interim examiner to GH Lett following “a period of difficult trading conditions.”

Speaking to The Echo, Mr. Hughes said he would not comment if the company’s 19 employees are in danger of losing their jobs.

However proprietor Douglas Lett, who says it is business as usual despite the examiner being appointed, said he would do his best to ensure jobs are saved.

Mr. Hughes added that the examinership gives the SlaneyValley drink wholesaler/distributor up to 100 days breathing space to restructure with a view to trading forward on a stronger footing.

He continued: “Examinership is Ireland’s rescue process for viable businesses, to save fundamentally good enterprises and thereby saving the maximum number of jobs.

“Every successful examinership results in a scheme of arrangement with creditors that allows the business to emerge from the process with strong prospects for the future. I am confident, with the rich history, goodwill and tradition that Letts has in the South East that the business will come through this restructuring and trade forward positively.”

GH Lett is renowned as being one of the oldest businesses in CountyWexford dating back to 1810.

Speaking about the latest development with his company, Mr. Lett said: “Even at this early stage we have been overwhelmed by the support and goodwill the family has received from our customers, suppliers and especially our loyal staff some of whom have been with us for decades. It is business as usual at Letts as we enter our re-organisation phase and every effort will be made to ensure the maximum number of local jobs is saved as part of this process as we get ready for the busy Christmas season.”
