Father of two Paul Bergin has been left seriously injured following an alleged hit and run incident when a car hit him and drove away from the scene at high speed.

The 24 year old was walking home to his parent’s house in ClonardVillage from his friend’s house at LiamMellowsPark shortly after midnight on the night of Friday, October 11th when the incident occurred.

He said: “I was going to cross the road just by the entrance to Westpoint when a white Nissan Micra stop and flashed his lights to beckon me on.”

Paul continued: “I genuinely believed that this man was going to stop and let me cross or else I wouldn’t have stepped off the path.”

However, according to Paul the car did not stop and proceeded to hit him, causing him to sustain a broken foot and subsequent head, neck, back and hip injuries, which will require surgery over the coming weeks.
