OUR EXCLUSIVE photo in this week’s Enniscorthy Echo shows the moment when Gardai and Army bomb disposal experts raided a cannabis grow house located beside a primary school outside Enniscorthy.
This is the latest seizure in a number of recent operations designed to crack down on illegal drug activity in the South East.
A man who was arrested at the scene and detained at Enniscorthy Garda Station under Section 2 – Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
He was later released without charge. A file is currently being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
On Thursday morning Gardai called to a house in Davidstown village that is adjacent to Scoil Mhuire, the local primary school.
Upon entering the bungalow, a grow house of cannabis worth an estimated €100,000 was discovered.
Gardai then detected a suspect device in the house, forcing them to call the Army Bomb Disposal Unit.
The experts carried out a controlled explosion some distance from the area.
It is understood that the pupils of Scoil Mhuire, Davidstown National School were unaffected by the drama surrounding them, with no evacuation taking place.
