A KILLURIN father-and-son recently embraced the Christmas spirit when they handed over a cheque for €1,715 to St. Mary’s Ward at Wexford GeneralHospital, the proceeds of a fundraiser from the end of October.

Jim Sutton and his son Gary took on the Dublin City Marathon on October 28 as both a fundraiser for the ward and a tribute their wife and mother Agnes, who sadly passed away in that ward in November 2012.

Jim explained that Agnes had passed away following a short illness but during her three weeks in the hospital, he and Gary had seen firsthand the work that the staff did for families using it.

“Our running the race was both a tribute to Agnes and an opportunity to give back to the ward who had helped us.”

He added that the marathon was something he and Gary had spoken about to Agnes before her passing: “We’d discussed it even while she was in hospital and after she passed away, it gave us both a good focus and something to work towards, in her memory.

“It was something I’d always wanted to do so when I made the commitment to Agnes to do it, I was determined to see it through and it felt great to do that.”
