An injection of funds to the tune of €15,000 was secured by Wexford MarineWatch last week.
The organisation submitted an application for consideration last Spetember and last week word filtered down that it had been approved.
Michael O’Connor of Electric Aid Ireland was in Wexford last week to present the funds to the committee.
Representative for Turn The Tide of Suicide Joe MacAvin was also in attendance. MarineWatch Chairperson Frank Flanagan expressed his sincere thanks to Mr MacAvin for his assistance throughout the year and for previous donations, which the suicide prevention campaign had made to Wexford MarineWatch.
Mr Flanagan also revealed that the €15,000 was “really needed” and already the committee had a clear idea of how it would be spent.
“We have it earmarked for a set of new lifejackets, rescue ropes and other vital equipment”, said Mr Flanagan.
MarineWatch has plans to expand its operation in 2014 and this funding will be vital to help buy additional safety equipment such as ‘Rescue Poles’, High-powered Searchlights, Lifejackets, and Rescue kits for volunteers.
