The demand for four new ‘fáilte’ signs on the approach roads into Carnew was too much of a financial burden for Wicklow County Council, so a generous local councillor stepped forward and the new signs are now in place.

Cllr. Pat Doran discovered that the County Council had no money in its budget for the signs, so instead of waiting until money became available for the project, he decided to sponsor the signs.

The signs read “Failte Carn An Bhua Carnew” and were achieved through the ‘Pride in Carnew’ committee of 15 who hold monthly meetings and promotes Carnew in the National Tidy Towns’ competition every year.

The work was promoted through the local group, Tus, and assistance was also forthcoming from the engineering section of the Council.
