Within just two days customs officers at Rosslare Europort made two major drug seizures. The total haul was valued in excess of €150,000.
Last Tuesday 2.7kg of cannabis and 0.32kg of a substance believed to be ecstasy with a total street value of €63,200 were found under the back seat of a car, which had arrived on a ferry from Cherbourg.
A male and female Polish national were arrested and taken to Wexford Garda station for questioning. Speaking yesterday (Monday) Sergeant Denis Whelan revealed that the male had been charged with the possession of drugs for the purpose of sale or supply, meanwhile the woman had been released but a file was being prepared for the DPP in relation to her case.
Meanwhile, on Thursday the Revenue’s Customs Service seized a further 4.5kgs of herbal cannabis with a street value of €90,000.
The drugs were discovered when Revenue’s sniffer dogs ‘Ralph’ and ‘Defor’, gave a positive reaction to a vehicle that had disembarked from the Cherbourg ferry. They had been concealed in two gas cylinders.
An English man was been detained for questioning and subsequently charged with the possession of drugs for sale or supply, according to local Gardai.
The Sergeant at Wexford Garda Station said that the seizures were “a great result of the hard work by the Revenue Customs Service and local Gardai.”
