Could Gorey be an “election poster free zone” this summer?

Cllr. Malcolm Byrne has suggested that if all parties and all candidates would agree, the local elections in the Gorey area could be poster free.

The Fianna Fáil councillor has made the first move by contacting all the parties locally with his suggestion.

“Posters are useful to help voters recognise candidates but I don’t think voters make their minds up on the basis of them,” said Cllr. Byrne, who added, “They can create unnecessary untidiness.”

He hopes that everyone would agree. He made the suggestion in 2009, but not all parties agreed so posters went ahead.
