AN UNCOMFORTABLE couple of days was experienced by the people of Clonroche as they not only suffered physical damage from the storms, but also lost electricity, phone signals and their water supply.

Local woman Marie Asple explained to The Echo that the Co. Council installed water tankers in the village on Thursday evening after the water was cut off.

“What happened was, there were several trees that came down on the power lines to our pump station and that shut our water off.”

“People had to use the tankers to stock up on water, whether it was for toilet facilities or burners. Some people spent the weekend with no water and as a result no heat because their burners weren’t operational.”

She added however that community spirit prevailed and that all those in the village looked out for each other: “People were starting to get a bit anxious after a few days of no electricity or water. I think we were one of the worst hit.”
