WEXFORD FESTIVAL Opera has been honoured with four nominations for the International Opera Awards which were announced in Covent Garden last week.

For the second year in a row, Wexford has been shortlisted in the Best Festival category.

It has also been nominated in the category of Best Chorus alongside renowned groups like The Met and Bayreuth.

One of the surprise finds of the 2013 Wexford Festival, ‘Cristina, Regina de Svezia’ is up for two awards with Australian Soprano Helena Dix nominated for the Best Young Singer award after her critically acclaimed performance and the opera itself nominated in the Best Rediscovered Work category.

Chairman of Wexford Festival Opera, Ger Lawlor commented: “2013 was a vintage year at Wexford and these nominations confirm that. We are delighted that the International reputation of the festival under the stewardship of David Agler, our Artistic Director, continues to flourish and has been recognised by these prestigious awards. We are ever grateful to The Arts Council for their continued support.”
