The sound of traditional music can be heard in Gorey tonight as the 4th Cuisle Cheoil event and the 2nd weekend Trad Festival has got under way.
Cllr. Robbie Ireton, Vice-chairman, Gorey Town Council, has welcomed the festival and said it is an opportunity to engage talent and match it with guests to create a traditional music centre of excellence in the town.
Pat Kavanagh, Chairman of the organising committee, outlined a long and varied programme of quality traditional music, song and dance, using the form of sessions, workshops and concerts to provide a cultural lift and also an economic lift to the town.
The festival was officially launched earlier tonight by broadcaster, Aine Hensey, at a Civic Reception hosted by Gorey Town Council in the Library and Civic Centre.
There are youth recitals at Gorey Library tomorrow, (Saturday), featuring the Spraoi Youth Group, Gorey-Ballygarrett CCE, and Comhaltas groups from Tinahely and Ferns.
The festival continues on Sunday and large crowds are expected in Gorey over the weekend.
