A NEW Ross mother has spoken exclusively to The Echo about her horror at finding explicit texts on her 16 year-old daughter’s phone.

The woman said her daughter brought the matter to her attention towards the end of last week but revealed she [the 16 year-old] had been receiving the messages since last December.

She also revealed that messages have also been sent to her 14 year-old daughter which were also of a very explicit nature.

This newspaper has seen the messages and can confirm that they contain very inappropriate content.

“I was shocked when I saw them to be honest,” said the woman.

She only discovered the extent of the problem when she herself received a Facebook ‘friend request’ from the person who is allegedly behind the messages.

She didn’t recognise the person’s name and asked her daughters if they knew who it was.

“They said yes ‘friend’ him that’s the person sending the weird messages,” she told this newspaper.

“Once I ‘friended’ him then I began getting the messages too and I know of other mothers who said their daughters have been targeted as well,” she said.

“When he sent messages to me he said he is 19,” she added.

It’s believed that in at least one case an explicit photo a male genitalia was sent to a very young teenage girl.

The Echo saw one message aimed at the 16 year-old in which she was asked if she wanted any ‘fags or pills’.

In another message the young girl was told she would ‘luv it’ because her virginity would be taken.

“I would like to warn other parents to be wary of what is being sent to their children either on Facebook or through their own email because people have ways of accessing them,” said the mother.

“I just want people to be careful,” she said.

The woman also confirmed that she had reported the matter to the Gardai.
