CO. WEXFORD SOLICITORS earned over half a million providing Free Legal Aid to clients in 2013, The Echo can reveal.

Of the 31 solicitors on the list, two earned over €50,000 while seven more made over €20,000 by providing State-paid services for those engaging with the legal system last year.

The figures, which were released to this newspaper by the Department of Justice, show that a total figure of €542, 669.67 was paid to the 31 solicitors, up €17,152.95 on the figure from 2012.

A total of 985 free legal aid cases were dealt with by solicitors in Wexford in 2013, an average of €550 per case.

The highest earning solicitor in Co. Wexford is Edward King from Wexford town who earned a gross payment of €88,532.32, dealing with 204 legal aid cases throughout 2013.

The next highest figure was €53,761.90 which was paid to Timothy Cummings of Kirwan and Kirwan. Mr. Cummings worked on 98 legal aid cases during 2013.

Catriona Walsh of Ensor O’Connor Solicitors in Court Street, Enniscorthy was the next highest earner on Free Legal Aid in 2013, dealing with a total of 61 cases and earning a gross of €41,522.51 in the process.
