GAVIN NUGENT, running in the May Local Elections
A large number of candidates will contest the Local Elections in the North Wexford district on May 23rd following the announcement that Gorey student, Gavin Nugent, will be hunting for a seat on the new Municipal Council.
Running as an Independent candidate, Mr Nugent, (23), is currently studying for a Masters in Public Affairs and Political Communication in DIT, has been working as an unpaid intern with local Senator Michael D’Arcy in Leinster House for over a year.
Announcing his decision to stand on social media, he said that while working there he “noticed a distinct lack of ideas emanating from every level of our political system.” “The policies I’m campaigning on are fully researched and thought out. They aren’t promises, or politics. They are real, achievable policies that can be made a reality.”
Mr Nugent will be campaigning on a range of issues, including youth mental health services, commercial rates, local property tax, unfinished or ‘ghost estates’ and unemployment.
