Tina Moorehouse with her twin sister Mary Murnane
ENNISCORTHY Councillor Tom Moorehouse has been left devastated after learning that his daughter faces three years in an Australian jail.
Cllr. Moorehouse and his family were “heartbroken” when his daughter Tina (47) was told by a judge in Brisbane, Queensland that she could spend three years in prison for breaching a domestic violence order.
She will be sentenced next Friday.
Her family, who reside at Moran Park, are now planning a campaign to put a stop to what they call an “inhumane sentence.”
Tina’s twin sister Mary Murnane, who also lived in Australia until she returned home recently, explained that the outcome is a result of a marriage turned sour.
She said that the union between Tina and her husband, who both moved to Australia over 12 years ago, broke down in 2011.
Following that time, the couple moved out of their home and worked out shared custody for their four children, aged from 7-15, she said.
Mary claimed that the pair then reunited last year, but it only lasted a month, and their split was not a pleasant one.
