Three people have been taken to hospitals in Dublin and Wexford following a two-car head-on collision early this afternoon.

Some of the injuries have been described locally as “serious.”

Just after mid-day a car with one person travelling from the Gorey direction and a car containing two occupants coming from the opposite direction collided.

The incident occurred on the R741 at Knockmullen, close to the Amber Springs Hotel.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene and the road was closed to traffic for a number of hours to facilitate a technical examination of the scene.

The road is now re-opened to traffic.
