Gorey Town Council conferred Civic Honours on about 40 of its most distinguished achievers at a packed Civic Reception held in Gorey Library last Thursday evening.

The idea was the brainchild of the members and officials of Gorey Town Council as a recognition of distinguished citizens and their contribution to Gorey over the years before the Council is abolished in a few weeks’ time.

Speaking at the function, Cllr. Michael D’Arcy, Cathaoirleach, Gorey Town Council said; “I am delighted on this proud occasion where we recognise the achievement and contribution of so many of our citizens as the term of Gorey Town Council is drawing to a close and this gives us an opportunity to reflect on our work and its contribution to the development of the town.”

Cllr. D’Arcy stated that over 40 recipients ranging from the young to the not so young were being honoured.

The scheme was based on a public nomination process.
