The family of Coolcotts man Dan Berry have spoken out for the first time about his death in the family home at Ferndale Park just two minutes away from the hospital while they waited 17 minutes for an ambulance crew to reach them.
Mr Berry’s eldest son Dylan, who appeared on RTE’s Prime Time last week, revealed that he performed CPR on his own while they waited for paramedics.
The closest ambulance was already attending the scene of an accident in Enniscorthy town and was forced to turn around and speed back to Wexford in response to the 999 call which Mr Berry’s wife Carmel made after he collapsed.
When the paramedics arrived they attempted to resuscitate the 60 year old for almost a half hour, but the popular horseman had suffered a massive heart attack and died before the ambulance arrived.
