The Argentine Ambassador to Ireland, Her Excellency, Ms Silvia Maria Merenga was in Gorey tonight where she attended the opening night of Gorey Musical Society’s performance of Evita in Gorey Little Theatre.
Ms Merenga thoroughly enjoyed the show and during the interval met with the principal cast members.
She was fulfilling a promise made last November that she would come and see the show.
She has accepted an invitation from Gorey Musical Society who in their 50th year are staging the story of Eva Peron through the musical by Tim Rice (lyrics) and Anthony Lloyd Webber (music).
There was a full house for tonight’s opening show which drew a standing ovation from the audience following the performance.
“We have been planning the 50th show for so long, we are delighted to have such a great show as Evita, and great to have the ambassador back again. She came to our launch,” said Musicial Society Chairperson, Mary Spellman.
The lead role of Eva Peron is played by Ciara Heron and the director is Imelda McDonagh.
The show runs until Saturday, April 12th nightly at 8 pm.
Tickets are €15 each and available from Gorey Little Theatre or by dialling 053 9421474.
