1950S FEVER has gripped the town such to the extent that Enniscorthy Town Council has said that it would consider all submissions from businesses seeking to change their shop fronts to the style of those being used for ‘Brooklyn’ on Castle Street.

Town Clerk David Minogue said that the Town Council was delighted with how Castle Street looked and that it had received a lot of admiration: “I think the transformation of the street has captured the imagination of the public who have come in their droves to see it.”

And he encouraged any business or shop owner with a proposal to change their shop front to the more traditional style to engage with the council who would consider any such future development: “There has been a great buzz around the town and the old shop fronts are clearly a great attraction. It would be foolish for us not to look at further targeting that interest.”

Local auctioneer Michael O’Leary of Sherry Fitzgerald O’Leary had earlier suggested that the town engage with the set designers of ‘Brooklyn’ for tips on how to enhance its image.

Mr. O’Leary, who spent a few days scouting locations with the team from the film, said: “Castle Street looks fantastic at the moment. Enniscorthy is a historic town and I think it would be ideal to recreate its historic look. It worked very well for Clonakilty in Cork which is absolutely beautiful.”
