THE BOARD of Management of Davidstown National School has collapsed after four of its eight members resigned with immediate effect.
The resigned members confirmed their resignation in writing to the Bishop of Ferns and are demanding the dissolution of the board and the appointment of an interim manager until normal duties are restored.
It is understood that much of the school community is not aware of this recent development which sees the school currently operating without a management body.
Diocese of Ferns spokesperson, Fr. John Carroll confirmed to The Echo that the matter had been received and was given the attention of Bishop Denis Brennan as patron of the school. The matter was then brought to the attention of the Minister for Education Ruairi Quinn.
He stated: “The bishop has made the request of the Minister and we are awaiting his response. The issue was brought to the Bishop’s attention within the last week. Once it was, he made the decision to make an application to the Department of Education on the matter.”
It is understood that a manager is set to be appointed to the school but their instalment is dependent on Minister Quinn signing off on the dissolving of the Board of Management which is expected to happen this week.
