Tina Moorehouse
THE FAMILY of Enniscorthy Councillor Tom Moorehouse has spoken of their relief after his daughter Tina escaped an Australian prison sentence.
In a recent exclusive with The Echo, Ms. Moorehouse’s twin sister Mary Murnane explained that Tina (47) faced three years in an Oz jail.
She said that a judge in Brisbane, Queensland told Ms. Moorehouse that she would be potentially imprisoned for breaching a Domestic Violence Order (DVO).
Mrs. Murnane claimed that this was as a result of a marriage turned sour. She said Ms. Moorehouse and her husband split in 2011, having moved to Australia together over 12 years ago.
She said that they moved out of their home and worked out shared custody for their four kids, aged from 7-15, before getting back together for just a month
After this break-up, relations between the pair severely disintegrated, and after a “text war”, Ms. Moorehouse’s former husband took out a DVO.
Mrs. Murnane claimed that her sister breached the order a few times, by contacting her former partner trying to see her children or getting too close to his house, resulting in the recent court drama.
Talking to The Echo on Friday, Mrs. Murnane said her family, who reside at Moran Park, is hugely relieved: “Tina escaped jail and instead got a fine and a rap on the knuckles. We are so relieved, as we were expecting the worst.”
Ms. Moorehouse’s anxiety about the potential spell in prison was outlined on her Facebook page, as she posted before the court appearance: “D-day tomorrow! Am soooooo nervous.”
After learning of her fate, she updated her page: “Thanks to my beautiful family and friends all over the world that have sent me messages of the utmost support! To my Mam, Dad, sisters Mary and Fran: I know how hard it’s been on all of you Thank you for never giving up.”
Cllr. Moorehouse said that the people of Enniscorthy had come out in droves to show their support, and many a Mass card was sent to his home. He said Minister of State Paul Kehoe TD had been in touch to offer his services.
