Encouraged by a large entry in all sections, next weekend’s Fleadh Gharmain 2014 hosted by Tuaisceart Loch Garman branch of Ceoltóirí Eireann, and taking place in Craanford, promises to be one of the most successful of its kind for many years.

The programme of events for the weekend commence on Thursday, May 8th at 6.30 pm in Gorey Library where the official launch will be performed by harpist, Cormac de Barra.

Performances by local and internationally recognised musicians, including local piper, Mark Redmond, will accompany the launch while St. Michael’s Pipe Band, Gorey, will lead a parade to Christ Church.

There are two music sessions in Craanford on Friday night including a singing session with John Furlong and friends in Craanford Mill followed by music sessions in Cooney’s Lounge and Mary Anne Doyle’s in Craanford village.

Saturday’s programme of events begins with the Fleadh Mass in St. Patrick’s Church, Craanford, at 7.30 pm followed by St. Kevin’s Marching Band from Ferns CCE.

Michael Curran will give an intimate recital in Craanford Mill and later a music session will liven up the surroundings in Cooney’s Lounge.

For many attendees at the Fleadh the big event is the Céilí Mór and it takes place in Craanford Hall on Saturday night with the Brian Boru Céilí Band, starting at 9 pm and admission is €10.

On Sunday, the competitions will be ongoing all day at a number of venues in Craanford from 10 am and the weekend activities will conclude with “a monster session” in Cooney’s Lounge until late.
