THERE WERE scenes of heartbreak in the normally bustling seaside village of Kilmore on Tuesday last as the community gathered to bid a final farewell to popular fisherman Paddy Barry.

Mr. Barry, who went missing from his fishing boat on November 25, had been missing for five-and-a-half months when his remains were discovered on the Great Saltee Island on Sunday, May 4, prompting relief for the tight-knit village that “one of their own” had finally returned to them.

At the Mass, parish priest Fr. Denis Doyle said that the family had wished the service to remain simple and had one wish which was to thank everyone for their continued support over the previous five-and-a-half months.

“Roisin and the children asked me to specifically, once again, to say thanks to the many, many people who have been such a help in so many ways. I know the family could not have gone through what they went through for the last five-and-a-half months without that support and care.”
