HOOK HEAD was transformed into a film set at the weekend when it provided the backdrop to a shoot for a feature film based on a romantic comedy written by Wexford author, Eoin Colfer.
On Friday camera crews set up around Hook Lighthouse and shot scenes for ‘Poison Pen’ which is Mr. Colfer’s first original script to go into production.
The best-selling author will soon see Hollywood adapting his Artemis Fowl series for the big screen work on ‘Poison Pen’ is now reaching its final stages and it’s hoped the feature will be ready in time for this year’s Galway Film Fleadh.
Set in the gossip world of a London celebrity magazine production on the film has been ongoing in Dublin for the last three weeks. Exterior shots will begin shooting in London today, Tuesday, June 3.
The romantic comedy stars Lochlann O Mearain (‘The O’Briens’ / ‘King Arthur’) alongside Aoibhinn McGinnity (‘Love/Hate’) in the leading roles with a stellar supporting cast composed of Paul Ronan (‘One Hundred Mornings’), Aaron Heffernan (‘Obama Mia!’ / ‘Love/Rosie’) , Susan Loughnane (‘The Food Guide To Love’, ‘Love/Hate’), Lauryn Canny (‘A Thousand Times Goodnight’ / ‘Amber’) and Mary Murray (‘Magdalene Sisters’).

The film tells the tale of washed-up author PC Molloy who is forced to write for April Devereaux’s gossip magazine ‘Poison Pen’. He becomes caught up in a world of stars and their secrets and is soon in danger of becoming a celebrity himself. Mr. Colfer attained worldwide recognition in 2001 when the first book in his ‘Artemis Fowl’ series was published. To-date more than half of his books have reached the New York Times Bestsellers list at least once.
