Camolin looks set to lose its Health Centre later this year.
Fears are growing in Camolin after it was learned that the Health Service Executive has proposals that could result in Camolin Health Centre being closed down later this year.
This threat is seen as another blow for rural communities and a North Wexford councillor is calling on the HSE not to take away vital health services from the close knit community.
The Centre has been downgraded in recent years.
GP services, which had served the community for a long number of years, were taken away and in recent times a nurse would look after patients from the Centre.
Cllr Malcolm Byrne is critical of the HSE plans.
“If the HSE proceed with this plan, it will force people in the area to have to travel for their primary medical care needs.
This will detrimentally impact on the elderly and those without their own transport in particular.”
Cllr Byrne feels that the Government seem determined to continue to remove services from rural Ireland – post offices, Garda stations, small schools.
Patients who use the centre at Camolin may now have to travel to Gorey or Ferns to avail of basic medical care.
