The generous people of Gorey will come out in support of a Gaza fundraiser to send much needed water and medical care to the people of Gaza.
A Gaza fundraiser is taking place on Sunday, August 10th in the Christ Church car park, Gorey, at 1 pm.
The event is taking place to raise funds to send water and other medical supplies to the people of Gaza in Palestine in conjunction with Islamic Relief Ireland’s Palestine Emergency Appeal.
Included will be a jumble sale where the people of Gorey and surrounding areas can bring their unwanted, pre-loved items for sale, with all proceeds on the day being donated to Islamic Relief Ireland’s Palestine Emergency Appeal. (www.islamic-relief.ie/palestine-emergency-appeal).
Organiser for the event, Lorraine O’Dwyer said: ‘We are encouraging the people of Gorey and the surrounding areas to clear out their homes and open up their hearts to the people of Gaza.
This event will raise money for the Palestine Emergency Appeal fund which currently is sending much needed medical supplies to the people of Gaza.”
Palestine is facing its worst humanitarian crisis since the eight day war of 2012.
To date more than 1,300 Palestinians, including women and children, have been killed and thousands more injured during the largest outbreak of conflict – the largest in Palestine since 2012.
Relentless air attacks targeting multiple sites in blockaded Gaza – one of the world’s most densely populated places – began in July.
To date almost 30 government-run schools, 37 UNRWA schools and a number of health facilities – including Gaza European Hospital – have been affected by shelling and fighting.
It is estimated that damage to water, sanitation and hygiene facilities in the crowded Gaza Strip has reached over €1.2 million.
Hospitals are running low on vital medical supplies and food for patients, while fuel for generators and ambulances is scarce.
The recent increased restrictions on the transportation of goods across the border are making the situation even more desperate for millions in Gaza.
All donations will be gratefully received and can be collected if needed. For more information, please contact Lorraine on 087 9247103.
