Kilanerin village has been nominated for the 2014 All-Ireland IPB ‘Pride of Place’ awards and over 70 people gathered in the local hall to hear details of the scheme while judges travelled from Co. Meath to view the village.
The pleasant North Wexford village will be entered in the ‘community spirit section’ and has much to offer as a worthy and excellent representative.
Peter O’Connor and Julie Sammiller introduced a presentation from representatives of local groups from the ICA, Hall and graveyard committees to the GAA, Community Development and Community Alert.
The judges were very impressed with the range of activities on offer, the passion of those involved in the various groups and the co-operation that was obvious between the groups.
Cllr John Hegarty, commented that “for a village the size of Kilanerin to be nominated in any All-Ireland competition is a great achievement, but for it to be in the community spirit category in such a prestigious 32 county competition as the ‘Pride of Place’ is a credit to all the people of Kilanerin.”
“We may or may not win the ‘Pride of Place’ All-Ireland title, but I believe the competition has already had a positive impact on the people of Kilanerin- giving locals a chance to appreciate all the good work that happens in the village each year,” concluded Cllr Hegarty.
The winners will be announced at a Gala awards night in Ennis, Co. Clare, in November.
