A North Wexford councillor who is calling for a reduction in Property Tax has described the Labour Party’s promise to freeze Local Property Tax rates as “laughable and insulting to the intelligence of the Irish people” and claims that Sinn Féin would “abolish the hated tax when they entered Government, and until then, are committed to vote for a maximum reduction of 15%.”
“The Local Property Tax is a grossly unfair tax that has been consistently rejected by the Irish people,” said Cllr. Fionntáin Ó Súilleabháin, who added, “The Labour Party’s call for a freeze on the rate is the most laughable attempt yet from the broken government party to save its neck in the next election.”
Cllr. Ó Súilleabháin wants to know if they really expect people to see freezing “an already over-priced tax” as a progressive move?
“Sinn Féins stance on the home tax has never changed. We were fundamentally opposed to its introduction and remained committed to abolish it upon entering government. Until that time, our councillors are mandated to vote for the maximum 15% reduction at local government level.”
