THERE WOULD be some greatly aggrieved motorists using the Tomnalosset road should they be clocked by a speed van at present as conflicting road speed signs are causing confusion.

The road, near Red Pat’s Cross just outside Enniscrothy, features two speed signs which would normally both read 80kph but have been altered to read 80 and 60, no doubt causing confusion for some drivers.

Town Clerk David Minogue remarked that while he had not been made aware of the signs he was “willing to be that somebody had turned the sign around”, remarking that it was a constant problem for the council.

“It’s mindless vandalism really,” said Mr. Minogue, commenting also that it was dangerous as drivers were unsure of themselves when entering into a built up area.

The cars driving toward the town should be driving at 60kph but with the sign turned around this information is not available to a driver.

Mr. Minogue said that in the case of similar issues, if they were brought to the council’s attention, they would be rectified.
