Wexford County Council crews have begun to reinstate the road in Hollyfort, and there are now two crews who will continue to work on reinstating the road and provide a good road surface, until early next year when the work will be completed with a macadam overlay and lining through the village.

The problem of drainage and poor road surfaces in Hollyfort was raised with the Council by Cllr Malcolm Byrne last year.

“Funding was provided to provide for road resurfacing, but this would be a short term solution unless the issue of drainage was addressed, said Cllr Byrne, who added; “To simply resurface would be a short term solution. It was decided to provide for a longer term set of actions where the cost would be greater, but make more sense.”

The village was experiencing the problem of when it rains the water crossing the road and flooding the area beside Cooney’s.

“I’ve supported the staff in this action as it is in the village’s long term interest and economically, makes more sense. I’ve asked that this work be completed as soon as possible,” said Cllr Byrne.
