
The ESB has said that thousands of homes have no power this morning after overnight high winds and heavy rain.
They said crews are working to restore power to 6,500 customers, 4,500 in Leinster and 2,000 in Munster.
Most of the affected customers are in Blessington, Co. Wicklow and Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford.
Motorists are being warned to drive slowly and take care of the debris on the roads, while Irish Rail says DART services between Connolly Station and Malahide/Howth have been suspended due to a fallen tree.
Irish Rail spokesperson Barry Kenny says services will be down for some time.
Irish Ferries has cancelled its two morning sailings of the Jonathan Swift, but passengers can travel on the Ulysses cruise ferry.
While the wind and rain alerts by Met Éireann have expired heavy rain showers are forecast for today.
