Gardai are this week continuing to investigate an attempted armed robbery at Barrack Street Post Office last Friday morning.
This is the second attempted robbery of the post office in the past six months.
Sergeant Grahem Rowley of Wexford Garda Station issued an appeal to witnesses in the area who may have seen a hooded male leaving the vicinity after the incident at approximately 10a.m. to contact gardai on 053 9165200.
There were a number of people in the building at the time of the incident.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that a single male with his face concealed entered the premises with an unidentifiable weapon and proceeded to attempt to rob the post office.
The individual left after he failed to obtain cash from the members of staff on duty.
A local detective unit and uniformed unit were on patrol nearby and rushed to scene.
Sergeant Rowley explained that it was a distressing experience for the members of the public who were in the post office at the time.
A detailed search of the vicinity was carried out in an effort to obtain evidence, but yielded no results.
A garda technical unit also carried out an examination of the building.
