Since the first motor car arrived in Wexford in 1897-’98, initially called “the horseless carriage”, motoring has developed through the decades and inspired two Wexford enthusiasts to compile the history of transport.

There was a large gathering in the Riverbank House Hotel, Wexford, last Thursday night for the launch of a new book entitled, ‘Putting Ireland on Four Wheels’.

While it is sub-titled ‘a history of Irish transport’, it is predominantly about Wexford, but also brings in neighbouring counties, Carlow, Kilkenny and Waterford.

Acting as master of ceremonies and welcoming everyone, joint-author, Peter Miller, said his input was about 20% while Dr. Austin O’Sullivan was responsible for 80%.

‘Putting Ireland on Four Wheels – a history of Irish Transport,” by Austin O’Sullivan and Peter Miller, 490 pages, 200 illustrations, published by Coolballow Publications. Retail price €25.

Full coverage of the launch in the Echo Group of Newspapers this week.
