FAMILY AND friends of a man who died following a tragic workplace accident gathered together at Glenbrien Church yesterday (Monday) to pay their respects and bid him farewell.

John Doyle (53) of Cooladine, Enniscorthy, was the victim of an industrial accident on Friday morning when, while working at his family’s grain warehouse in Cooladine, he fell into a grain storage unit and became trapped.

The accident happened at approximately 9 a.m. and while substantial efforts were made by work colleagues to rescue the popular local man, they were ultimately unsuccessful.

Investigations were carried out at the scene by the Gardai and also by the Health and Safety Authority, whose investigation is ongoing. The body was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital for post-mortem before returning to Wexford for removal on Sunday and burial mass yesterday.

Mr. Doyle, a single man, was the son of William Doyle and the late Kate. His father is a well-known figure among farming circles having held numerous positions including presidency of the IFA.

He was described locally as a friendly and hardworking individual who was very popular in the farming and business communities.

He is survived by his father William, brothers William, Pat, Michael and Simon, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

The Echo extends its sympathy to the bereaved.
