Peter O’Gorman and Gillian Dunlop of Camross Drama Group on stage at the Gorey One-Act Festival.

The three nights of the Gorey One-Act Drama Festival brought along good sized audiences for some high class presentations in Gorey Little Theatre with the final adjudication taking place on Saturday night.

Prosperous from Co. Kildare, who took to the stage on the opening night with Bram Stoker’s ‘The Judges House’ adapted by Stewart Roche, took first place in the senior section.

Bradan Players from Leixlip with ‘Unveiling’ by Vaclav Havel, translated by Jan Novak, and Ennscorthy’s  ‘Private Wars’ by James McLure, both on Friday night’s bill, took second and third places, respectively.

In the open individual section the winners were ‘best actress’, Michelle Reade of Bradan Players, ‘best actor’, James Murphy, Prosperous, and ‘best director’, T.J. Duggan, Prosperous.

Kilrush Drama were successful in the confined section with ‘The Proposal’ by Anton Chekov, translated by Julius West, and Ellie Condron won the ‘best actress’ accolade.

And adding to Kilrush’s celebrations was the fact that Michael Byrne was ‘best director’.

Camross finished runners-up with ‘The Shape’ by Tara Maria Lovett, and Paddy O’Gorman took the ‘best actor’ prize.

Conna from west Waterford were in third place.

There were two adjudicator’s awards with Enniscorthy providing the “best moment in comedy” and Prosperous picking up another award for “sound effects”.
