A MAN accused of robbing The Bus Stop Shop in Enniscorthy appeared before the court on Sunday evening.
32-year-old Jamie Carroll of 16 Cre na Mara, Arklow was charged with the robbery of the Templeshannon Quay newsagents at a special sitting at Gorey District Court.
Carroll was charged with entering the shop shortly after 5 p.m on Saturday, allegedly armed with a knife. It is alleged that he threatened staff before making off with a large amount of cash.
After exiting the shop on foot, he was pursued while shop staff called the Gardai. Carroll was arrested shortly afterwards and taken to Wexford Garda Station where he was questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
At the special court sitting in Gorey on Sunday at 8 p.m, he was charged with the robbery of €1,470 in cash and €1,150 in cheques. Gardai are understood to have recovered some of this money.
Carroll was remanded in custody in Cloverhill until today (Wednesday).
This is the second theft to take place at The Bus Stop Shop in recent times. When contacted by The Echo, owner Anne Swaine admitted that the incident was disheartening but there was little she could say.
“I’m just glad noone was hurt,” she said, in relation to the terrified girl who was working on the till on the day in question.
