HEAD COACH of the successful IABA Elite Boxing High Performance Unit Billy Walsh has announced the full list of boxers who will compete in the special Boxing Tournament, in memory of his late father Liam Walsh.
The line-up of 18 boxers is the cream-of-the-crop of Irish boxing talent and includes a mixture of Olympic, senior and youth champions.
The tournament, which celebrates the contribution the late Liam Walsh has made to boxing, takes place on Saturday, December 6th, in St. Joseph’s Club, Bishopswater.
Speaking ahead of the event Billy said: “I have chosen a mixture of youth and experience which will make for an interesting and lively contest. I anticipate a very competitive tournament with no easy bouts. You can rest assured every boxer will be out to win his particular contest”.
The most promising boxer on the night, as decided upon by the judges, will be presented with the inaugural Liam Walsh Memorial Trophy, which Billy says, “will be a proud and nostalgic moment for all the Walsh family.”
A limited number of tickets at €20 each still remain available for the tournament by calling the club on 053 91 45269.
Proceeds from the event will go to St. Joseph’s/St. Ibar’s Boxing Club which the late Liam Walsh founded 25 years ago.
