Wexford town was left in bitter shock and regret when news of the sudden death of popular local postman Ned Heffernan broke on Saturday.
The 57 year old from Fisher’s Row died in his sleep on St Stephen’s Night.
A post mortem examination was due to be carried out to determine the cause of his unexpected death.
Mr Heffernan was widely known throughout the community having worked with An Post all of his life, serving the Wexford town area.
He was also in years gone by a soccer referee with the local district leagues.
His beloved mother Theresa and adult children Stephen, Mark and Laura survive him. He was also pre-deceased by his late son Graham.
Mr Heffernan’s passing is also deeply regretted by his siblings; Noel, Tommy, Jimmy and Mary.
He will be reposing at Mulligan’s Funeral Home, The Faythe, today (Tuesday) from 11a.m. with removal to the Church of the Assumption, Bride Street, at 7p.m.
A large crowd is expected to turn out at his funeral Mass in tomorrow (Wednesday) with burial afterwards at St Ibar’s Cemetery, Crosstown.
